A Message to You

When I was young, I did not think my English was good, although I studied at an American graduate school. I felt that there were always other people smarter than me. I was afraid to ask for promotions. Even when I was teaching at an American university, I felt like I was an imposter.

Last year, I was furloughed because of COVID. This was the first time in my adult life I did not have a job. With two kids in college, it was scary not knowing when I will get my job back, and it was frustrating not to be able to work because I loved working. However, this experience gave me time to think about my life and what I REALLY wanted to do at this point in my career. After months of self-reflection and self-exploration, and with help from my career coach, I realized that I had to recognize my strengths, accept myself and be proud of my accomplishments. I discovered that my life work was to share my knowledge and skills for women like the young me. 

If you are reading this, know that you already have what it takes to make your dream come true. All you need is confidence and focused support.

Timing is very important, especially for us women, who have life options that are dictated by biology. I have seen many young women pass up on opportunities because they did not have the confidence, but then I know many women who made their dreams come true later in life. I experienced both. As a woman who has worked cross-culturally for over 35 years, I would say to you - DO NOT WAIT! The time is NOW. Invest in your future. I have so many things I want to share with you, but you must make the first step.
